UNREC assists the Togolese National Commission against SALW proliferation.
A workshop was held in Lomé on 26 and 27 June 2014 as a capacity-building effort to strengthen stockpile management practices among Togolese officials from defence and security forces. Organised by the National Commission against the proliferation, circulation and illicit trafficking of SALW in Togo, the workshop aimed to improve safety and security practices in stockpile management as well as increase the degree of ownership amongst responsible officials.
Workshop on the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1540 (2004) for Portuguese speaking United Nations Member States
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) views the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery as a threat to international peace and security. UNSC Resolution 1540 was adopted by the Security Council under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter in 2004.
The Parliamentary Forum on SALW, in cooperation with the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) and the National Assembly of Togo held the seminar “Enhance ATT and UNPoA Implementation by South-South Parliamentary Exchange and Cooperation” the 22 and 23 of May, Togo . Opportunities and Challenges for Women in the Field of International Peace and Security.
The Goethe Institute of Lomé and UNREC organized an evening event with Ms. Gabriele Kraatz-Wadsack, Chief of the Regional Disarmament Branch at the UNODA in New York on Tuesday 3rd of June. The interactive discussion provided female German-speaking students from the University of Lomé with an insight into the field of peace and disarmament. The event served to encourage young women to strive towards a career in this field.

The United Nations Regional Office for Peace and Disarmament Affairs (UNREC) held its periodic diplomatic briefing on the recent activities of United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and UNREC on 4 June 2014.
UNREC supports Nigerian consultative forum on small arms. A three-day national stakeholders’ consultative forum on the proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW) entitled “Trends and Dynamics of illicit SALW Proliferation in Nigeria” was held in Abuja from 2 to 4 June.
