Within the framework of the « Project on Implementing Practical Disarmament Measures in West Africa: Technical Support to the ECOWAS Small Arms Unit and the ECOWAS Small Arms Control Programme », UNREC organizes on 18 and 19 August 2010 in Lomé an independent expert meeting of. These experts will review the draft Guide for the harmonization of national legislations on small arms and light weapons in West Africa which is being elaborated by UNREC for the ECOWAS Commission, with the financial support from the Austrian Government.

The 30th ministerial meeting of the Committee (26-30 April, 2010, Kinshasa, DRC) was dedicated to review this draft Convention. After four days of intense negotiations on the basis of the legal instrument drafted by UNREC, the Member States of the Committee concluded the negotiation by consensus on the whole text of the Convention.
The Member States of the Committee adopted, at their 30th meeting, a motion expressing their deep gratitude to the Regional Disarmament Branch and to UNREC for the excellent work done.

Experts meeting in Lomé on a draft Guide for the harmonization of national legislations on small arms and light weapons in West Africa.
Twelve independent legal experts and disarmament practitioners met in Lomé, Togo, on 25 and 26 May 2010 at the initiative of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC).

At the end of a two-day workshop on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Accra organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) and the ECOWAS Small Arms Division, we members of Defense and Security Parliamentary Committees of ECOWAS member states present at the workshop, hereby make the following recommendations that:
