On 23 November 2021, UNREC participated in the workshop organised by the Fondation pour la Recherche Strategique on the Hague Code of Conduct on Weapons of Mass Destruction. UNREC provided a general presentation of its work on SALW control in the region, as well on the support provided by the RIODB to the UNSC Resolution 1540 Committee for the implementation of initiatives to counter the proliferation of WMD in Africa.
From 22 to 30 November 2021, AMAT experts carried out an assessment mission of special ammunition in Lomé, Kara and Niamtougou, in response to a request for assistance sent to UNREC by the Government of Togo.
From 22 to 26 November 2021, UNREC participated in the 52nd Meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security in Central Africa (UNSAC) and presented activities of the Regional Centre for the last six months. On 7 and 22 October 2021, UNREC and UNODA Vienna Office met to discuss joint application for funding in the 2021 UNSCAR Call for Proposals. A draft proposal and a draft partnership agreement between the two UNODA offices were finalized. Related communications to beneficiary Member States have been sent. On 5 and 18 October 2021, UNREC held virtual meetings with CAB, AMAT and GICHD with respect to UNODA response to a request for technical assistance from the Republic of Togo for the assessment and disposal of certain special ammunition.

On 24 September 2021, the Director met with Mr. Espoir Fadu, a Togolese artist who has been promoting disarmament through his work. He was also received by the High Representative during her visit to Lomé in 2019. Ways to promote peace and disarmament education were discussed.
On 20 September 2021, UNREC and EO were able to agree on closing the ATT Madagascar Project and OSIWA project as well as not to address the issue of accrued interests from all accounts, among others. UNREC is following up with further communications with France, Cameroon and Finland. The multiple donors contributed ATT fund is to be addressed, upon Senior Finance Assistant’s resumption of duty.

From 15 to 17 September 2021, in Abidjan (IVORY COAST), UNREC participated in regional workshop held with ECOWAS Member States’ experts to harmonize guidelines on the ECOWAS Convention on SALW and the Arms Trade Treaty. A mission report is sent separately to the SMT.
